Help!

If my publishing time is correct, you will notice that it is 3:41 a.m. My sweet little boy has turned into a roly-poly and now, I can't sleep. He turns over in all kinds of manners through the night and I am scared silly that he is going to bury his face in his sheet...

He hasn't so far. I keep checking on him. I roll him over to his back. I go back in and there he is on his tummy. He's stubborn. I wouldn't worry so much but "they say" it is most dangerous for an infant who has ALWAYS slept on their back to all of a sudden sleep on their stomach. UGH! So, how do I keep him from sleeping on his stomach?? Short of staying up all night???

Help!

christy, can you get a sleep positioner? you know, one of those fabric things with foam on the sides to prevent rolling?

we used one with harrison and i plan to use one with # 2. of course, i cannot remember how old harrison was when we discontinued using it.....

i understand what you're going through. i'm a constant "maybe i should check on him" kind of girl, too!

I am terrible about checking on my kids...I still do with the older two anytime I get up (which is alot with Addie).

I was really nervous with Aidan and Emma about them flipping to their bellies and I would always turn them back. However, Addie does not like to be turned back and gets extremely mad the couple times I tried it, so I have had to concede to the fact that she is a stomach sleeper, which I don't like, but can't do much about.

I had heard that too about the most dangerous time being if they had always slept on their backs to suddenly switch to their stomachs. So, I asked Dr. Doyle about it after Addie started flipping over and she assured me that if they can get to their belly on their own they will be fine...the real danger is if they are being put on their bellies before they are capable of getting themselves over. She told me to just continue to put her down on her back. That put my mind at ease some...but I will never not worry or check on her.

Also, I thought that sleep positioner was a good idea too, but I have read bad things about those lately and to me it is just something in the crib that could be harmful.

Thanks ladies. We have had 2 naps today and of course I checked on him multiple times through them both. He keeps rolling to his tummy but he seems to be pretty good about keeping his head turned. So that is good but I a sure it will be many nights before I am able to sleep peacefully.

The positioner thing is good I think when they are not as squirmy but Forest would just kick his way out of it guaranteed. He doesn't crawl yet but he can make it all the way across the room if there is something he wants. So, anything short of a straightjacket will not work. Obviously I won't be using one of those. (: I guess mommies are just Not supposed to sleep. He's worth it.

Christy, I just wanted to add to dress him in light pj's. When they are on their tummies, they tend to get warmer and sleep deeper. That is also why it happens more in the winter months because we overdress them. I am paranoid about this issue too (I had a cousin die of SIDS when she suffocated in the blankets) but heard the same thing from Dr. McQ that Kara did. I just dress them light and put NOTHING else in the crib and let them sleep however they want.

I always take a deep breath after 6 months because the chances decrease significantly.
